Biographical Note

Maria Legerstee earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the Universite du Quebec a Montreal in 1985. She was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship by the Social sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada) at the University of Montreal, (1985-1986) and at Surrey Place Centre, Toronto, (1986-1987). In 1987, she was awarded a 5-year Canada research fellowship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada), which she took up at the Department of Psychology at Dalhousie University. In 1991, she joined the Faculty of the Department of Psychology at York University, Toronto. Her research focuses on social cognitive development from infancy through early childhood, with special emphasis on the social mechanisms that promote this development. Professor Legerstee's research is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (Canada).
