Psychology Computer Lab Information
Topics
Undergraduate users will be able to access the PsychLab from 8:30 am till
11:00 pm, Monday to Friday. Faculty and graduate students will
have 24 hrs, 7 days a week access. Outside 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, access is
possible with a valid YORKCARD.
The central area (room 159 BSB) and its cubicles are for general use;
principally by undergraduates, and for block bookings by classes.
Scheduled classes take priority in this area and your prompt co-operation
in closing your computing session when asked is expected. Room 158B is
reserved for faculty and graduate students.
If you are working in the Lab outside peak hours, you can inform Security
at 736-5333 (no charge
call on campus). They will then stop in the Lab as part of their rounds to
check on you.
A $10.00 lab fee has been charged to Undergraduates in courses using the
Lab. Graduate students must pay their $10.00 Lab fee to the Lab
co-ordinator at the beginning of the Fall term. This is a first step
towards recovering some of the printing costs. You may print ONE copy of
your document. Duplicate copies must be produced using photocopy machines.
- As more classes start using the lab, we have to allocate the use of the
lab more carefully. It is particularly important that the lab only be
booked for times that it will actually be used.
- We plan to protect a large number of hours during the week for drop-in
times. A TA may be present during these drop-in times but the lab is not
reserved for exclusive use of the course.
- Except by special arrangement, we will book a maximum of one hour weekly
for the exclusive use of a course. We prefer that bookings be made for
specific weeks and, in that case, will consider bookings for more than one
hour weekly for a course.
- Bookings are for the use of 159--central area plus cubicles.
- We urge instructors who have a booked hour to allow use of computers in
the cubicles by others if not needed by their students.
- Computers in 158B are for the exclusive use of graduate students and
faculty.
- Computers in 162A are used on a drop-in basis at the discretion of the
Technology Resource Co-ordinator. This will usually be in the afternoon
only. (162A is the Resource Centre and the area must be supervised when
in use)
Another benefit of our own server is that Faculty, Graduate and
Undergraduate HEBB account holders have been allocated their own space on
the server. Users are advised to get into the habit of using the f: drive
as their working directory. Save files onto your floppy disks to enable
you to take files with you to work on at home. Using the f: drive will
help to minimize problems that can be experienced with floppy disks and
drives a: and b:.
